| Mac Faxing: software error I'm trying to use the fax part of my iMac's built-in fax modem to send a fax. Unfortunately, nothing happens; when I check the modem icon in the dock, all I get is "There was a software fax error." I'm running 10.3.9 on a "half-dome" imac. The modem works fine for going online. I don't have modem online when I try to fax. I enter the number as 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. Help doesn't offer any help. Can you? TIA, Jim |

It worked here for 3 years non stop without a single fault. 24/7 even. Apple broke my modem in Tiger (waiting for update) so I had to buy a real fax device. Important is: DISABLE built in faxing before installing it and carry the instructions which it displays step by step. I didn't like built in fax of OS X, they use excellent efax unix program (at background) but the gui for notification etc does not simply exist. Ilgaz |

Nothing pleased me but FaxStf X. It has the modem display so you can see that it's sending, you can call up the window to see that it was sent, and the addressbook interfaces perfectly with the mac addressbook on 10.4. (something apple's fax did NOT do correctly for me, by the way). The free Faxstf version has everything that I needed. I don't need special perks like emailing a copy to someone. I just needed a reliable fax program, and up til now FaxStf X has worked perfectly. I tried Pagesender and it worked but I did not care for the interface. Faxcenter gave me white print on black and the software designer never did get back with me after I emailed him about a fix for that. I tried a couple of others but was disappointed with their interface also. I guess what I like most about Faxstf is that it shows you a menu of all of the names/numbers in your fax list from the addressbook, and you just check the ones that you want it sent to. You can opt for more than one, which is especially nice in my work. YOu have the option for a no-frills fax cover sheet, which is tidy looking and has the "legal disclaimer" on it, plus room for a short note. It's everything that I wanted. -- Can somebody tell me the price of one Saddam? And how many caskets will it take to make another Vietnam? |
