catch 22

I have planned to boot to my hd externelly in order to use iPartition,
but I canīt. I have tried BootCD to no use. I cant do netword boot and
my second hd is connected via USB so that is no option i guess.
Programs like iPartition and iDefrag is practically useless when the
main hd is restricted in this way. Sounds like catch 22.
Any tip would be welcome.

What hardware and OS are you using? Can you boot of the original system
CD?

1. OS X Panther latest update (3.9?) Since then i have installed Tiger
2. Yes I can boot but from the CD but that way i have no access to
iPartition or any other system software - except disktools
(Skivverktyg in swedish)
Thanks for your interest.

If you have an external hard drive use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a
clone / backup of your computers main volume. Once it's done (it will
take a while), go to System Preference > Startup Disk and select the
external enclosure. Reboot the system, which will then start off the
external drive. Run iPartition (or whatever) and change the settings
back to the internal disk.
