LC 630 / PM 5200 / etc ... TV Card - if you have one, I need help

Hi all,

I'll try to be quick ... as I was revamping my daughters LC / Quadra
630, and I broke a component off the (Australian/PAL) TV Card. If you
have one, I need your help ...

If you whip out the card (carefully) and have a look, just behind the
antenna input, there should be a series light brown surface mounted
components. I broke off the one closest to the antenna!

I can send a pic - but I thought it wouldn't be the done thing on this
newsgroup, so here is my best text art representation ... I broke off
the one labeled 'C6':

|
|____________________________________________
| O | |
|___| [][] [][] |
| |
Antenna In | [] |
| ___| C9 |
|-> | |[] [] |
|___|C6 <----------- the busted one ... |
| |
| [][][] |
|___ |
| O | |
|___|_ ______________________________________|
|

What I need to know is a) what is it (guess: C stands for capacitor?).
b) what are the specs/what's written on it, and c) what orientation is
it (there's a line on one end that tells you which way is up).

If I can find all this out, I can take it to a repair guy, and my
daughter can watch TV again ...

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mikey

Took some photos of one that I have here, have a look at:
http://www.phil.net.au/tv_card

Would have taken some better shots, but the camera battery went flat
after I took those three.

I've got no use for the tv card that I've got here... lemme know if you
wanna buy it (ie email me direct if you do).

Phil

Re: LC 630 / PM 5200 / etc ... TV Card - if you have one, I need help

Thanks Phil - I fixed it myself with the help of your pictures!

This should give hope to those with little electrical skill :)

The component had broken off when I removed the TV Card (Hint: If you're
removing the card pull down, not up - the bit I broke is far too close
to the top of the metal frame ... :)

It broke clean off - all you could see on it were two ultra thin slivers
of metal in a sea of light brown ...

So, I plugged in my soldering iron, and worked quickly but carefully on
adding lead to both ends of the box shaped component.

Then, I soldered it onto the board, put it back in, booted up and - you
bloody beaudy! - the TV card works!

Couldn't do it without your help Phil - thanks again!

Mikey
