trouble after changing name of home folder

Hi
My brother has changed the name of his home folder (which was named
"User") by clicking on it in the finder then typing in his name. He says
a few things have gone wacky, such as his desktop items disappearing,
can't connect to the internet, can't see his iPod.

He hasn't changed the name of the "Users" folder.

He'd like to know how to restore things and then find out the correct
proceedure to change the name of his home folder. Can anyone help?

I suggested that repairing permissions might be the solution. Does that
sound like what he should do?

He has basically the same setup as me. eMac 1.25GHz, OS 10.3.9.

Peter

Try renaming the folder back to what is was and then, after making sure
that everthing's working properly again, use this to change the user

That ought to do it-- HOWEVER, he probably should be logged on as a
different user when he does it.
