| Problem installing RAM in iMac Hi, I have a 15" 800 MZ flat panel iMac, the kind with a round base. I recently purchased a 512MB RAM chip online and installed it in the easily accessible memory slot. Piece of cake, right? Except that when I turned the machine on, all I got were three beeps, a dark screen, and a blinking powerlight in the lower right side of the display. That's it. I tried taking it out and reinstalling it. Same thing. Tech support at 4allmemory suggested I download and upgrade the system firmware. Only after spending over an hour on the Apple website did I determine that there was no applicable firmware to update. So 4allmemory determined that the chip was bad, and they sent me another one. Only guess what: the second chip does the same thing. It should be the right one, SDRAM PC133 (Lower Slot). Any suggestions? TIA, Jim |

I always buy Micron memory. Either from a local distributor or from their official web-distributor, Crucial. (http://www.crucial.com/) If you buy from Crucial, be sure to use their system-selector form to buy the specific part number that's matched for your Mac. Even though you may get the same module as the generic part number, their compatibility guarantee doesn't apply if you don't order it using the system-specific part number. -- David |
