mac mini browser help needed

I have just ordered a Mac Mini -- but it is not clear from the specs if the
software includes a web browser and email client -- if not how do I download
Firefox/Thunderbird without a browser to start with. (I have both broadband
and dial-up ISPs).

I can download the Mac version into my Windows PC - so can these be
transferred to the MAC by means of a CD ?

Dan.

Unless they ship you a computer with an empty drive (which is highly
unlikely), you'll find that you receive a mini with an operating system
(10.3.8), a web browser (Safari), an email client (Mail), a host of
utilities (including a Unix interface), and a music player (iTunes).

1) Mac OS X includes Apple Mail and Apple Safari web browser. As well,
the Mac version of Internet Explorer will be installed-- but Safari is
the default, and (in my opinion) a better browser.

Using either IE or Safari, you can download Thunderbird/Firefox if you
want.

2) It's generally a problem trying to download Mac program files onto a
PC and then transferring them to a Mac-- if your download is an archived
file (ZIP, Stuffit, etc), then it can transfer OK, but if it's an
executable file format, you can only transfer it with great difficulty.

Re: mac mini browser help needed

The files now on my PC are currently titled ---

Firefox.dmg, and Thunderbird.dmg -- downloaded from site as being Mac
versions.

I can put them on a CD - will the Mac Mini read my PC CD ?

Your mac should have no problem reading a CD you made under Windows.
Also your .dmg files should be just fine as well. I am not sure if
Windows will let you turn the images into CDs, but they should be so
small you can just copy them directly to the CD and fit both.

Your new Mac mini will have everything you need to browse the web right
out of the box. You can certainly download an alternative web browser if
you want, but you won't be without a web browser when you first start up
your Mac mini.

Re: mac mini browser help needed

Mac Mini includes Apple's browser "Safari", you can then easily download
Internet Explorer, Netscape, FireFox etc. Personally I prefer Netscape on
the mini but have all of the above installed on mine. If you have an
ethernet type internet connection you should be able to connect it to the
Mini and get online immediately. Configuration in my case was a non issue,
I just connected it to my switch and away I went.
