Apps load faster, I can run more of them etc etc. If you can afford it, go the 1gb (as we really only get one chance with the mini due to it only having one slot). Take it easy, Shane. |

If you are using software that requires additional memory, then you will see an improvement in speed by upgrading the memory. |

| Re: Performance of Mac Mini I have a 1.42 with 512 MB of memory and everything seems pretty fast. Last night I pulled video off my movie camera over firewire and edited it in iMovie adding transitions and titles and it didn't seem sluggish at all. I have also used GarageBand a bit and it seems fast as well. I ran the trial version of Excel that comes with it and loaded up a workspace that had about 50 sheets in it and everything was plenty fast. We browsing also works fine. The only issue I have there is that my mini is on the opposite side of the house from my wireless AP. |

| Re: Performance of Mac Mini I decided to upgrade the memory from 256 to 1G. | Re: Performance of Mac Mini Its generally accepted that 256k is inadequate for the Mini. Why not plan on a 1gb upgrade right away? I bought a 1gb PC3200 DIMM for $139, far far cheaper than getting it from Apple. Look for some of the online guides that explain opening the Mini and go for it. There will be less data swapping to disk and just more memory in general for applications, etc. with 1gb. True, most people find 256MB to work better than 256K. :-) -- Randy Howard (2reply remove FOOBAR) "Making it hard to do stupid things often makes it hard to do smart ones too." -- Andrew Koenig |

It is not easy for someone lacking training or experience in the exact procedure. It's possible, but not easy. On the other hand, it *is* easy to do minor cosmetic and mechanical damage to the Mac if you're not completely sure what you're doing. |

MacWorld (April) also has an article with a how-to-open section... you can find that one (complete with pictures of using a putty knife to crack open the case) at: http://www.macworld.com/2005/03/feat...mini/index.php =============================================== remove 'nospam' when replying |
