Hi
I am buying an iPod photo in the next 2 weeks and London Drugs still
has the now discontinued 40 gb for $546 Canadian after tax. The new 30
gb is $501 after tax. I know that the new one doesn't include firewire,
or a dock and I believe my 466 mhz G4 tower only has USB 1.0.
Other than the 10 gb difference in memory and lack of included
accessories, what is the difference between the two? Does the new 30 gb
one have ANY features that aren't available on the 40 gb? Can you use
the camera adapter to upload and view pictures on the 40 gb that's
discontinued?
If they are the same except for the aforementioned differences then I
guess I will buy the 40 gb. I just need to know what the disadvantages
to this are.

You can get a PCI card for your G4 that will accept USB 2 devices for a
reasonable amount. Which iPod photo to buy is entirely up to you. Its
your money. Both the old and new models are excellent technology. If you
think you will need that extra disk capacity, then buy the new model.
The big disadvantage of the older model is the lower disk space
capacity, but if you do not expect to use the extra space that the new
iPod photo offers, then it doesn't matter.

Thanks for your reply. Actually what I'm basically wondering is this:
Is the hardware on the 40 gb iPod Photo exactly the same as on the 30
gb iPod Photo? (Other than hard drive size and that the 30 gb is
slimmer).
