iPod as a PDA

Hi -

My wife is kicking tires looking at a PDA and an mp3 player. I'm curious if
anyone has pushed an iPod into service as a PDA too. Yea/Nea?

Critical stuff:
Contacts
Scheduler
Ability to sync (one way is okay) easily with PCs and Macs

I'm not too big on the remaining fat on PDAs like wireless, pocket word,
yadda yadda.

Thanks.

It can be used that way as long as you have no need to enter data
directly on the iPod... on my Mac, I use Apple's iSynch to synch my iCal
calendar info and Address Book contacts.

I believe there's 3rd party software that allow you to synch with Mac
Office's Entourage calendar and contacts or Windows Office's Outlook,
but I don't have any first-hand experience with that.

I'm not sure if you would be able to synch it to contacts/calendar on
BOTH a Windows PC and a Mac... I suspect you might run into problems
with that, but again, I have no first-hand-experience.

I have an iPod that has the calendar and address book built in. My Palm
Zire 72 does those things better. I prefer to use my iPod for music and
my Palm with the Palm Desktop software for my PDA. You get the best of
both worlds that way.
