| Help! € Will a 15" ALUM Keyboard fit a 15" TI Book? Help! € Will a 15" ALUM Keyboard fit a 15" TI Book? The keyboard on the 15" PB 1GHZ TiBook SUCKS... it bends too much. It's all plastic. I do a lot of typing. The 15" ALBooks are all metal keys. Will a 15" ALUM Keyboard fit a 15" TI Book? Can I switch the keybards out so I can get an all metal keyboard on a 15" 1GHZ TiBook? Now some people have taken steps to add support to the back of the keyboard in order to reduce flexibility (I did this on my Pismo, but don't know how one would go about doing this on a TiBook specifically), and it's possible that if you used another TiBook keyboard you would find that a different stock unit would be acceptable. No, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the AlBook keys are plastic also. The usual reason the TiBook feels like it's bending is that the top panel has separated from the trim. IIRC, it's just glued on. This doesn't actually affect the keyboard, it's the wrist rest. |

The Al models, you can't do this. There's a more solid foundation underneath. |

Very solid...it was removable. Unless the TiBook's keyboard is improperly installed, it should feel flimsy at all. Neither of them here do. I'm fairly picky about keyboards, since I have to deal with them all day, every day, being a tech writer. > -- you pop it up to access the RAM. The Al models, you can't do this. More like you don't do it because the DIMM access is from the back. It's highly unlikely that the keyboard is welded in place; there has to be some way to remove it for service or repair. |

The point being that a removable keyboard doesn't necessarily result in a flexy keyboard. |

The point being that the 1400 had a non flexible, removable keyboard because it also had a 1/16" aluminum plate it was mounted to! Not only heavy, compared to the current keyboards, but also thick. -- Brian Ehni |

It *can* be removed, but there are about twenty screws plus it's glued down. The only reason to remove it would be to exchange it - you don't access anything through the keyboard. Pete |
