Ethernet for Color Classic

I got a Color Classic donated (thanks, Brian)... I would like to get it
online via an Ethernet connection.

It's got an Ethernet adapter in it, but it doesn't seem to be working--
possibly it's a non-Apple adapter that needs drivers other than Apple's
Ethernet extensions (it's running OS 7.6)

(OS 7.6's Ethernet extensions are loading at startup, and the TCP/IP
control panel is set for DHCP, but doesn't seem to be getting an IP
address from the server... I don't know any more direct way to check
whether the NIC is working. Suggestions?)

Alternatively, anybody with a spare Ethernet adapter that they can send
my way (that will work in a Color Classic?)

Thanks!

Assign the IP address manually. The 'internet' mentioned in the OS ~7.5
control panels is not the Internet.

I'll give that a try... I opened it up (easy to do w. the Color
Classic), and found that it's an Asante ethernet adapter-- they have
drivers and utilities for it online.

After I installed the drivers, their utility found the adapter, and
showed 0 packets in and out.

Do you think there will be any problems leaving the Apple Ethernet
extensions (et al) still loaded, or should I be fussing with Extensions
Manager and turning them off while leaving the Asante stuff?

I would leave them alone; you should be able to point it to the correct
card, and the drivers will sort things out.

BTW, looks like I'm headed sorta your way this summer; my Uncle is
organizing a fishing expedition to the Great White North.
