File sharing in Panther

I have two computers running Panther (10.3.7). We'll call these compA,
and compB.

On compB I have user John with password Doe.

I turn on personal file sharing on compB, and try to access it from
compA. CompA recognizes compB, but when it asks me for user and password
and I type in John and Doe, it tells me the password is invalid.

I've tried turning off the firewall, with same results.

Is there a separate file sharing password? If so how do I set it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx
Phil

Yea, I've been through all of those about 20 times. There's just
something stupid that I'm missing.

thanks
