Questions about Canon videocam and software

I have a 2.5 dual G5 w/2.5-GB RAM and a 23" Cinema HD Display.

I'm a newcomer to video. I plan to buy a Canon ZR90 Camcorder for
starters and then eventually progress to a Canon XL2 for a project I
have in mind.

Does anyone here have experience with the ZR90 they will share with me?
I suppose the ZR80 would provide similar experience.

Is the Canon ZR90's bundled software good Mac stuff? Will it get me
from the camera to a DVD without too many headaches?

Thank you.

I can't vouch for software included with that Canon. I don't own one or have
experience with one. As long as the camera has a firewire port (a.k.a.
IEEE1394) it will probabl work for you fine.

The ZR90 is listed on Apple's page:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/camcorders.html

The iMovie and iDVD software provided with your G5 is very easy to use for
making DVDs.

Re: Questions about Canon videocam and software

Thanks. I've done more research. It doesn't take too long to reach my
level of incompetence. My thinking now is a more advanced
hobbyist-type camera, but I need more information. I know they offer
BS degrees in this stuff, so I'll be looking more for data on an
inexpensive as possible way to get high quality video onto DVD's for
sale.

Another option I just thought of is to put an ad in the local paper to
form a small production effort with other video wanna-bees like myself
and perhaps we can pool our equipment, resources, and expertise.
Maybe as a group we can buy the key piece of equipment we need... who
knows.

Thanks again. Saw your web page.

Certifications are offered in many individual applications as well, such as
Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. These are being offered as short course at
MacWorld Expo in San Francisco this coming January.

You might first try looking up local camera clubs and user groups for Macs and
video applications. (When I lived in Orange County California, I attended
several meetings of the Orange County Multimedia Association or OCMMA.) You
might also try your local universities (and maybe high schools) for student
clubs. And, of course, your favorite online forums. Oh, and local
professionals.

Thanks for looking. (The one thing worse than having everyone hate your
webpage or video is having no one ever look at it. Ask Daffy Duck.)
