| (OSX 10.3.6) Default app for "mailto:" URLs Browsing with Safari, when I click on a "mailto:" URL (abc@def.gh) the application invoked is Entourage. I would prefer to have it be Thunderbird (or Mutt?). I have looked at all the Preferences menus and Help pages that I can think of, but nowhere do I find a way of changing the application that comes up for such URLs. It must be possible -? TIA for any advice. Cheers, N. -- |

Launch Apple's Mail program (/Applications/Mail) and make the change in its preferences dialog. Yes, this seems like the wrong place to be setting that preference, but that's where Apple put it. -- David |

You do mail/preferences/select<click> and then you can choose any darn program you want. I never use Mail, and my web browser and email program (and news for that matter) are all Mozilla, but still, that's a handy tip. GW |

I would never have found that on my own. I'm glad I saw Neil M.'s post about www.rubicode.com first, though. RCDefaultApp looks like a very handy thing. Cheers, N. -- |

I would never have found that on my own. I needed help too. I've a friend who works at an Apple Genius Bar who told me about that one. Similarly, the preference to set the system-default web browser is in Safari's preference dialog. -- David |
