| ibook will not startup My girls use an ibook G3 to do word processing and other school related work. Has the blue cover, 300. Last night one of the girls shuts down the ibook and charges it all night. This morning when the start button is pushed the ibook starts to boot up, the happy mac icon comes up and than nothing. I have tried restarting with extensions off - same result. Took the battery out and tried just off of electricity - same result. Let it sit without the battery for several hours and than tried to start with and without the battery. Same thing - grey screen, happy mac icon and nothing else. She has 12 typed pages she needs to turn in next week. Thanks, Claud |

Keep these keys held down until you hear the Mac's startup chime three times. Also try resetting Open Firmware: hold down Command-Option-O-F when booting. At the OF screen type: reset-nvram <return> then type: reset-all <return> Sound like the CMOS battery is dead and needs replacing. =:~) -- "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." - Ernest Jan Plugge news at cdss dot fsnet dot co dot uk |

| Re: ibook will not startup Thanks, I tried the keypad advise and neither worked. Am going to get my startup cd back from someone I lent it too and try starting from the cd. I thought about the CMOS battery, however, I am not familiar with them on ibooks. Can I replace this myself? With the machine shut down, press this once using something like a paperclip. If you can start it from a boot CD, it might be the HD. Also, do you get any beeps apart from the usual startup chime? One or more indicate a problem. =:~) -- "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." - Ernest Jan Plugge news at cdss dot fsnet dot co dot uk |
