| Problem updating to OSX 10.3.6 I have just downloaded the 34 mb "delta" file for osx 10.3.6 on my G5 (OSX 10.3.5) for a manual update. When I try to open the file, I get a "Warning" box that says: The following disk images failed to mount Image MacOSXUpdate10.3.6.dmg Reason no mountable file systems Clicking okay puts me back to ground zero. Please tell me how to procede with a manual update with the above named file. Thank you. |

Hmmmm, I have never tried downloading a "delta file" I have been with OSX since 10.3.2 and I always do the "Software Update" under the Apple menu and everything is automatic, i.e. no disk images or whatever. Does that not work on yours? GW |

Does that not work on yours? > GW Yes it does. Did it once. I can't tell you why the Apple site called it that. It's supposed to do the update from the desktop. I wanted to see if it has the same feature as the Software Update you mention which I tried once and it spent some time "optimizing the hard drive" at the end of the update, which I am suspicious of security wise. So I don't understand why it doesn't do the update. There is no readme with it. |

The download is corrupt. Download it again. I'd also recommend downloading the combo instead of the delta. Rob. |

Why? This is a part of the installation process, and will happen even if you install manually. Rob. |

Unix is very specific about file paths and can get slow quickly, from what I understand. It has zero to do with security. GW |

| Re: Problem updating to OSX 10.3.6 I wondered about that, so I downloaded the file again and it did (or didn't) do the same thing. Same warning. Then I downloaded the combo file and got the same notice. Do you know what "no mountable file syatems" is and how I can overcome that? Is it no mountable file systems in the downloaded file or on the hard drive? Thanks. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In article <121120041343371984%simples_it******.it>, <"simples_it******.it"> wrote: > In article <111120041313574912%catowned@denwotac.com>, catowned > <catowned@denwotac.com> wrote: > > > I have just downloaded the 34 mb "delta" file for osx 10.3.6 on my G5 > > (OSX 10.3.5) for a manual update. I didn't know that, and I usually come down on the side of security if it's a question of is it or isn't it. The only way to know was to do a manual update to see if it happened the same way. Thanks again. |

This was being done from a server and there isn't any way of knowing what was going on. Like not being able to use Apple's updater file. What's up with that? Geeze. Thanks for the info, tho. |

| Re: Problem updating to OSX 10.3.6 Okay, three time's a charm, I suppose. I downloaded the updater file again and it worked this time. Including "Optimizing Volume Macintosh HD" that I wondered about. I still would rather do this myself rather than let a server do it. Call me overcautious. Thanks to those who made suggestions in this regard. Chalk up another plus for this group. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In article <111120041313574912%catowned@denwotac.com>, catowned <catowned@denwotac.com> wrote: > I have just downloaded the 34 mb "delta" file for osx 10.3.6 on my G5 > (OSX 10.3.5) for a manual update. Just a Q about the bad downloads..... Are you on broadband or dial-up? It's been my experience, that long/slow downloads = bad. GW |
