Ibook nightmares

I have a Ibook G3-500 which seems very unreliable.

Apple changed the motherboard two times under warranty. They gives
extension warranty on these motherboards because there's t

The motherboard was changed last week and yesterday the hard drive broke.

Now I can boot the Ibook with my Cdrom and use my external hard drive with
the Ibook. On this external HD, there's OSX10.3 and OS9.2. I can easily
boot with the OSX10.3 but i'm unable to boot with the 9.2 partition. Why ?

I also tried to install OS9.2 in this Ibook with a Genuine Ibook 9.2
installation Cd but was unable install it on a second partition on the iBook
HD. Why ?

Finally, The HD in the iBook is doing 'scratching noise'. The beat of the
noise I hear is always the same. Is there a way I can make this HD alive ?

Thanks
