| Newbie Question: Hide vs Minimize? Hi, I recently switched to Macs and I am loving it. I've been getting more comfortable with Mac OSX. But there are still some issues that are not clear to me. What is the difference between "hiding" and "minimizing" a window? Are there any situations where one would be prefered over the other? The only obvious difference between the two that I have noticed is that minimized windows can still be seen in the Dock, whereas hidden ones aren't. Is that it? Or am I missing something? JS. |

Hide removes the app from being the frontmost or active app and any open windows from sight, without killing the app. Minimise leaves the app as the active app, and puts the active window down into the dock. |

Yes, you "hide" an entire application (and all its windows), you "minimize" a single window. As an alternative, you can hide all the other programs instead of the current application with "Hide Others" in the appliation's menu. A hidden application is still running. It just doesn't show any changes being made. If you quit the only showing application, the next one in the list will be shown and become the front application. -- Walt Sellers Macintosh Programming and Support in Central Florida www.VirtualOutpost.com ws_usenet@virtualoutpost.com - include the keyPhrase "WhoYaGonnaCall?" in the body or subject of the message to get past the spam filters. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In theory there is no difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is. -unknown =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
