Hi there.

My company has just bought a G4 and we are running OS9 on it. The sound
doesn't work through OS9 but it does through OSX. It also crashes all the
time.
We were wondering if anyone else has experienced problems like this. Were
thinking apple might be trying to force everyone to use OSX (e.g. G5's wont
even run OS9), so even on a G4, OS9 runs like crap???

Too little information for a reasoned diagnosis.

Is is a new G4 or second-hand?
Which G4 is it?
How much RAM?
What other peripherals are connected?
Etc. etc.,.....

Provide some more details and things might become clearer.

Constant crashing is definitely abnormal. It could be caused by corrupt
software or hardware - constant crashes on OS X are most likely caused
by flaky RAM.
