I tried burning a DVD today, on my daughter's eMac. Since I'm very new
at this, I decided to burn it to a DVD-RW. I figured if I screwed
something up, I could erase the disk and try again.

The disk plays okay in my home DVD deck, but when I put it in my iBook,
the drive spins for a moment, and then ejects the disk.

I have a 2001 iBook 500MHz (dual-USB) with a DVD drive (Matsu****a
SR-8176). (NOT the "combo drive" model that burns CDs - at the time I
bought it, this was the mid-priced model that plays CDs and DVDs but
does no burning.)

Is not recognizing DVD-RWs normal behavior for this model? If so, does
anyone know of some sort of firmware update that will upgrade my drive
to read DVD-RWs? (I spent a couple of hours browsing the net - came up
with some region-control patches, etc., for the drive, but nothing
relating to DVD-RWs.)

I'm just trying to figure out if there's something wrong with my drive,
with the disk, with my system, or who knows what else...
