| need help removing Cyber Patrol My 5-year-old nephew's Mac (OS 9.2) is now getting a warning that Cyber Patrol is not working and hence he cannot access the internet. He must have installed this from some game's disk, none of us adults put it on there. His computer is not permanently attached to the internet, and in seaching for an answer to this problem I read that Cyber Patrol software doesn't work if you install it while not on the internet, so this is probably part of the problem. I cannot find the parts of this thing to disable it - I've looked in start-up items, control panels, and extensions, and done a search for "cyber" and "patrol" with no results. I want to get it off - it puts up annoying pop-ups, and now he can't get on the internet if we hook him up (with supervision of course). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. |

That file location on their server gives a corrupt archive file, but I wormed around somehow and found a good one. I didn't try it yet. I finally got a response about how to remove this thing and I'm going to my nephew's house this weekend to try everything. Here's what I got: CyberPatrol MAC version is discontinued and no longer supported. CyberPatrol does not install/activate itself, it requires manual installation including acceptance of the license agreement and clicking Next several times. As well as being sold individually, CyberPatrol version 4 was included on many learning and games CD's e.g. Reader Rabbit, Maths and Learning Company. It was also preinstalled on Gateway PC's built in the late 1990's. Go into the mac HD and open the Cyber Patrol folder and click on the badge symbol. Then click on "File" and select "Uninstall". At the password screen type in "omed" and click "OK". Say yes to restarting the Mac. If you need the file please visit: ftp://ftp.cyberpatrol.com/download/o...4/cyberpat.hqx You will need to delete the file called sys$pref to reinstall Cyber Patrol. Then follow the instructions above to uninstall. If someone has attempted to remove CyberPatrol by putting the CyberPatrol file into the trash to delete then to restore MAC TCP after trashing of CP Install a fresh version of TCP/IP from the system CD that came with the Mac. This is the procedure: *** Before you begin go to the MAC TCP already in place and write down the settings. Go to the Apple - Control Panels - and open the MacTCP. Write down the settings and then move the old MacTCP to the trash. 1. Insert the CD containing the MacOS. 2. Double-click "MacOS Install". 3. Select the hard drive for the OS and click "Select" 4. Click "Add/Remove" button. 5. Click the MacOS $ checkbox; select "Customized Installation..." in the popup menu to the right. 7. Click the small triangle to open "Network & Connectivity". 8. Click the "Open Transport" checkbox. 9. Click "OK". 10. Once the clean original is restored you will need to enter the settings that you wrote down and save the file. |

| Re: need help removing Cyber Patrol I was the one who created that "bypass Cyber Patrol" page, but those instructions are no longer maintained (and in any case do not work for a Mac). I don't know how to permanently get rid of Cyber Patrol for the Mac, however if all you want to do is to be able to access Web sites that are occasionally blocked by Cyber Patrol, then go to http://www.peacefire.org/circumvento...tructions.html You don't actually install that program on the Mac -- you get a friend who has Windows to install it on their computer, and then the installation program gives you a URL for circumventing blocking software. Then you take that URL and use it on the Mac (or any other computer that has blocking software on it) and it will let you access any page you want. This won't work, however, for circumventing certain features, for example if Cyber Patrol blocks all Internet access after a certain time of night. -Bennett Lorraine <LPatsco@aol.communge> wrote in message news:<170720041714502177%LPatsco@aol.communge>... > > http://www.peacefire.org/bypass/Cyber_Patrol/ > > > > Maybe this'll help? > > > > Srb > > Thank you. | Re: need help removing Cyber Patrol > I was the one who created that "bypass Cyber Patrol" page, Thank you! I tried the instructions I finally received for removing CyberPatrol from Mac, but this part - " Go into the mac HD and open the Cyber Patrol folder and click on the badge symbol. Then click on "File" and select "Uninstall". At the password screen type in "omed" and click "OK". Say yes to restarting the Mac. " - did not work. I tried re-installing CyberPatrol, but it gave me all kinds of errors when trying to uninstall itself, usually along the lines that the version I was trying to uninstall did not match the extension (and meanwhile I cannot find a CyberPatrol extension). Then it would throw itself into the trash ! leaving its cancer behind. When I replaced the TCP/IP control panel as instructed, the error at startup went away, but I still have not tried to see if the Mac can now get on the internet. |
