Looking for actual experience: USB->Ethernet Adapter for MacOS X10.2 or higher

[To hopeflly eliminate the slew of non-applicable responses that my
search revealed]
- yes, of course, I've done the web and usenet searches
- I'm not looking for opinions, just concrete facts or references
- I'm well aware that macs have built-in ethernet, and that USB 1.1 is
relatively low bandwidth
- I also know about the prototype CDC device driver]

Does anyone have direct experience with an end-user purchasable
USB->Ethernet adapter that will work with a USB 1.1 Mac system runing
Jaguar (Mac OS 10.2) or higher?

I'd appreciate direct product information: product name, model, source,
price, and experience.

Responses to the newsgroup for future searchers would be appreciated.
But you may also email directly.

thanks in advance,
GTr

I realise that this isn't a useful response to you, but I am curious. Why do
you want such a thing?

Yes -- per a report on www.xlr8yourmac.com, I bought and tried the
Farallon PN796 USB-to-Ethernet adapter. Mac OS 9 and X drivers weren't
included but could be downloaded from another site (which no longer
exists, though I still have the drivers and would be happy to email
them). Here's the page from xlr8yourmac.com...

My experience was along the same lines; I used a blue iBook (with a
broken Ethernet port) instead of a PowerBook 2400c but it worked fine
under Mac OS X 10.2.6. Network access was slower than with a PCI card
but more than acceptable.

The adapter cost me $6.99 + S/H at the time from globe2000.com.
Unfortunately that company no longer seems to stock them; the lowest
price I can find right now is $11.49 + S/H from here:

BTW, I changed the Followup-To line -- comp.sys.mac.comm is the
appropriate group for Mac networking questions.
