How to re-install OS X?

Hi all,

I am a newbie to mac. Recently I just installed OS X on an old IMac.
Unfortunately I forgot the password. Now I want to re-install the operating
system. How can I do that?

Thanks,

DY

You don't need to do a reinstall. Boot from your installation CD by
holding down the 'C' key at powerup and then there'll be a menu item
somewhere in there for re-setting Admin password.

Re: How to re-install OS X?

Thank Jim.

Unfortunately my machine has another problem. Every time when I turned on
the machine, it went to command prompt mode. It displays

"bootr unknown word"

I have to type boot to make it boot to OS X. Do not know which command I
should type to boot from CD, but pressing C key does not work...

Try resetting the PRAM by holding down the keys P R option and command
until you have heard the startup chimes at least twice. Then you should
be able to boot from the CD by holding the C key down (not just
pressing) until it starts booting from the CD.
