| Type 10 error with ClarisWorks and Tpye 3 error with Outlook Express Hi all I am posting this message, as I am having some problems with my iMac Computer. Firstly I get a type 10 error message when starting ClarisWorks and trying to create a new word processing document. In addition I also keep getting a type 3 error message when trying to print email messages from Outlook Express. I was told to update my system software, as well as look for updates to the two above mentioned programs. I was able to update ClarisWorks 4.0v6, but that did not work. In addition I updated Outlook Express to version 5.0.6 and am still getting the same error messages. I tried to find an v5.0 update for ClarisWorks, but there is not one available. Apple's list of updates goes from 4.0v6 to 5.0v2 and I would need 5.0v1 to update to 5.0v2. In the event you need it here is some more information on my computer. I am using a iMac 233mhz with 160mb of ram running MacOS 9.2.2. I am to the point that I almost ready to take the unit into the shop to have it looked at, but I thought I would post a message here to see if someone out there could help me. Please reply to this message if can be of some help to me. When responding please don't be too techincal, as I know a lot of about computers, but surely do not know as much as most of you. Thanks in advance J. Johnston |

You do not have a hardware problem so taking the unit in to be checked would be an expensive way to go. I am assuming 6hat at one point, the computer ran fine with the older versions of Claris and OE - is that right? I would first buy and run Disk Warrior. If that doesn't fix things, I would do a clean install of the OS. If you are not using OS X, you can install OS 9 up to version 9.1. The changes from OS 9.1 to 9.2.2 were to improve OS X compatability only. Cathy -- "there's a dance or two in the old dame yet." - mehitabel C.Stevenson, M.D. cats1921@sonic.net |

Keep in mind that doing this loses all the preference settings for that app, so depending on the app, important info could get deleted this way. I suggest manually checking and writing down any preferences, and moving the preferences file to the trash, BUT NOT EMPTYING the trash until as system and application restart has been made. This will force the system and app to create a new, uncorrupted preferences file, but still leave the original in the trash if you find you need to move it back and replace the newly created one.
