Inherited G3 Powermac

Only doc is "Setting Up Your Power Macintosh" and "Emergency
Handbook." Here are my first two questions:

It has a Logitech USB mouse and USB/ADB adapter, but the connector
plus adapter won't fit into the kybd ADB port, and I can find no
mention of any USB ports on the machine.

I figured I'd plug it in and at least get info on system, memory,
etc., but no joy there either. I turned it on (power light/button),
and it made a non-error musical sound, and the disk chittered away for
a while. The screen blanked, turned green, turned gray and that was
it. Kybd is getting power, as caps lock key makes the indicator light
go on.

Anyone have some clues to get me on to the next stage? TIA

Depends on the model G3 and what OS it has.

My G3 beige desktop does not have resident USB. You have to add a
card for that..

Ask the person yopu got it from if possible on the hook up.

You might go to www.lowendmac.com and find specific information about
your model. It does sound as if something is wrong since it should
boot to a Mac OS screen. You might also check inside for the battery,
depending on the model it's in a black plastic container and is about
the size of 1/2 AA cell. This should read about 3 V. Some Mac's don't
like to boot if this is bad (others do YMMV).

Oh yes, did you get any CD's with the machine ? If so you can boot
from the OS install disk by holding down the C key as the machine
boots. You might have a bum OS on the hard drive.

Also on Mac's if you need to you can boot with the just the mouse
and not kbd. This should allow you to plug the mouse into the back of
the box. With that (and assuming you can get an OS screen) you should
be able to do some stuff. If you get this far pick the Apple symbol
on the Upper Left and then About this Mac, that'll give you memory and
processor info.
