This looks similar to the problem I've just been experiencing. I
narrowed it down to the fact that I'd been experimenting with Font Book,
and had disable some fonts. I turned them back on and Address Book
worked perfectly. Sorry I can't remember which fonts were required.
Could this be related to your problem?
