| Missing Boop This is really a minor thing. But, you know how the signature "boop" sound the Mac makes on startup? My PowerBook no longer does this. But, once the system has booted, the sound (including the system alerts are fine). I'm still running 10.1.5, and will be upgrading to Panther in a few weeks (I have bought it, but don't want to change OS's until I am "caught up" on the consulting project I've been working). But, if anyone knows how to fix this in the interim, let me know. I'm sure some little setting somewhere is no longer correct. -- -----+----->>>>joe Obrin | +----->>>>joeobrin@io.com | +----->>>>http://www.io.com/~joeobrin |

| Re: Missing Boop Hi! I lost the startup sound on a G3-500 iMac. At first I thought it was because I had the both the alert and regular volume controls muted, but even after fixing those I had no startup noise. Try "zapping the PRAM" to get your sound back. That should do the trick. To zap the PRAM, power up your Mac and hold all of Command, Option, P and R at once. You should hear the startup noise three times with some delay between each one. After the third one, release the keys and let the machine boot. Apparently this can also be turned off in OpenBoot firmware, but I don't know how to do that or how to fix it either. William |

But if the first zap works, and he hears it when the system restarts, then there isn't a need to do it the other times. -- Walt Sellers Computer Engineer For Hire www.VirtualOutpost.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Meddle not in the affairs of dragons; for thou art crunchy and good with ketchup. -unknown =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
