| Epson 1280 & OSX???? Downloaded the Epson driver for my 1280 (not silver) last evening. I was curious if anyone knows if the functionality is preserved using Panther.....do I want to Upgrade OSX 10.1 to Panther? I also have 9.2 on the same machine, will that still be available once install Panther? Will 9.2 still work and open older legacy PPC programs? -- LF website http://members.bellatlantic.net/~gblank <<<For best results expand this window at least 6" at 1152 x 768 resolution>>>>> |

Will 9.2 still work and open older legacy PPC programs? I can't comment on the 1280, but in general Epson has done a good job w. OS X drivers and support, including Panther. And yes, Panther continues to offer Classic Mode support. Panther has a number of handy features and is optimized for better performance on the same hardware... it does, however, require more hard drive space. Assuming you have an extra GB or so of space to devote to it- AND are prepared to buy a copy, it's a worthwhile upgrade. |

Alan thanks for your answers, If I install Panther do I need to keep the partion intact which OS 9.2 sits, or can I delete 9.2 and still retain the Classic mode on Panther? To rephrase my question: does the Classic mode open from the partion that 9.2 is installed on? Even though my iBook G4 can't book to OS 9, I need an installed copy of OS 9 for classic support. It doesn't have to be in a dedicated partition... and you could-- for instance, erase everything on your existing partition(s), clean-install Panther, then install OS 9.2 afterwards. But until you have a 9.x installation, you won't have Classic Mode operational. |
