Sarfari Can't Find ???

I just bought an E-Mac. It's running Panther 10.3.3 with Safari
1.2.1.

I am using a dialup connection with Internet Connect 1.3.

Safari gives me the message "Safari can't retrieve the page because it
cannot find the server http/...(rest of domain name)...

After trying to get my page a couple of times I ask Safari to find
Google. It does and then I am able to navigate to other pages.

I get a similar messages using IE. The old iMac I have sitting beside
my new computer connects faithfully using the same Internet Service
Provider (Lightspeed, here in British Columbia).

I'm sure there is just a bit of information I need to solve this
problem. Do you know what it is?

I tried finding preferences for Internet Connect to see if I could
tweek something but could find no Prefences under the Internet Connect
menus.

Help would be much appreciated.

Re: Sarfari Can't Find ???

your DNS server for your ISP is setup incorrectly
contact your ISP and ask them how (what values) to use for your NS
server over their dial up service

It appears as though your system cannot find a nameserver or address
resolver, that is the system that converts up the URL you type in to
a real internet address like 61.23.45.245. Anyway I'm a little hazy
on this stuff but perhaps if you set Google as the home page of
Safari. Then when you dial in and bring up Safari it will find
Google, set up your address translation and then the next page you
look for will be OK.

In your Network settings in System Preferences after you get a working
connection look there under TCP/IP and see if you have any addresses
in the DNS (Domain Name Server, the translation machine). You could
look before and after you go to Google. If you have one after but not
before you might consider entering those numbers in the Network
preferences.
