IE lock up on download + unplugged imac = Adobe Acrobat no longer works

Adobe acrobat no longer works on WWW downloads.

i also changed memory settings for IE, increased, turned on virtual
memory on IE, then a couple of days later IE locked up on a smallish
download. I had to unplug the computer to restart, now i can no longer
download pdf files. An older iMac i'm guessing with OS 9.2 installed.
You'll have to excuse me i'm not Mac savy and this is the first time
i've used one in a while.

Some pointers must have got messed up after the last "restart" as i
had to rebuild parts of the Apple menu. I also had to drag and drop
some plugins back to the systems and/or extensions folder.

What happened? Can anybody help me?
