On reboot, it will ask for a password; enter one you won't forget this time! If it doesn't, then go into the Preferences and set one. 8^) -- Brian Ehni |

To reset the administrator password using the Mac OS X CD: Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 CD and restart the computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the spinning gear. When the Installer appears, choose Installer > Reset Password. Follow the onscreen instructions to change the password. Quit the Installer and restart your computer while holding down the mouse button to eject the CD. -- From the Help in OS X. |

Unless, of course, the original administrator set the firmware password and you stole his machine, in which case you is up da creek because even booting from an install disk won't bypass a login screen, or so I'm told by David Pogue. But you can create a new user account and give it administrator privileges. If you like, you can then log-in to that account and revoke administrator privs from the other account or delete that account altogether. -- David |

In which case, can't you remove the NVRAM battery and unplug the computer for a few hours to reset everything back to the factory defaults? Of course, this will be a real pain in the arse on a laptop, since this battery is deep inside, and removing the main battery by itself isn't enough. -- David |

Don't know if that would work, but you can change the total amount of RAM in the Mac, then reset PRAM three times. That is supposed to remove password protection. -Kurt |

If you're willing to use NetInfo Manager, root access, and the Terminal, yes you can do this: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...11126225224115 -Kurt |
