Mike (and others who've replied)--

Thanks for answering my questions. I think that at this point, with my
level of (non) experience, and the inability of YDL to do everything
(airport, etc) that Panther does on my powerbook, YDL or any other Linux
system won't work for me as a full-on day to day replacement of the
Apple OS. I do intend to load YDL on an older Apple machine I have, and
I'll use it to learn something about Linux.... in my 'spare time.'

At the end of the day, Apple customer service has still been
ineffective, though I finally reached a friendly person through the
corporate office, and at least they're speaking with me and giving me
the impression that progress will be made sooner or later. It has now
been two weeks, and I'm still sitting with an empty box and no action on
Apple's part, but as you say, this is a very odd situation.
