Help with version

Hi all,

How do you go about determining what operating system and version are on a
Mac?

My daughter is on a student exchange, and the family has given her access
to a Mac. She would like to install messenger, but we need to sort out
which one to download and install. The owners of the computer don't know.

Also, she "may" have installed an incorrect version, or IE just needs an
upgrade.

Where is the Mac equivalent of "add/remove" programs?

Thanks in advance.
John

Apple Menu -> About this Mac

Simply drag the program or folder to the trash. Unless it has a Setup
program that offers to remove other components such as extensions or
plugins.

lycka till!

In case she doesn't know, "Apple Menu" is the apple icon at the upper
left corner of the screen.

In addition, it's hard to install the wrong version on a Mac (except for OS9
or OS X version, and even they usually will tell you they don't work). And
you can't install any Windows programs at all; executables don't.

You are correct, but I kind of doubt it's on this Mac, otherwise the
daughter mentioned would have known what to do with it (I think).

That may help, because she's also mentioned that since the menus are in
French, she's worried about getting the wrong one. She's on a student
exchange, and the family isn't all that computer literate. So, we have to
translate French to English, and Windows to Mac as well. Time zones don't
help either. We'll get there....... ;-)

Thanks
