| Print from an OS 9.2 App. to the OS X Printer Hi I bought a new HP Laserjet 1015 and installed it on the iMac running OS X. It prints fine from OS X over a USB line. The application of our business uses still OS 9.2 and I can't print from that application. It wants to print to the old Laserwriter 320 on the LAN (and that takes forever). The disk has only one partition, I can't start the iMac from OS 9.2, at least I wouldn't know how. Any help where to change that? For unknown reasons, Apple decided that we can't share our OS-X printers with OS9 and older machines... (we can however share our printers with Windows machines...) The only way you're going to be able to use the new HP printer from the other workstations is to boot the iMac into OS9 (providing HP has OS9 drivers)... You didn't mention how old the iMac is, but I believe the 2002 (and older) models will boot to OS9.2, providing it's installed. Go to System Preferences, StartUp Disk and see if you have an OS9 option. If so, boot to 9, install the drivers, enable USB printer sharing and you're set... but of course, you'll need to be booted to OS9 if want to print from the other workstations. Gary |

What I would do is: set up a generic laser printer on Classic, and let this printer spool into the OS X USB printer's queue. If your system is using the CUPS printing software (like Panther and AFAIK also Jaguar does), this "must" work, since all printers are like network printers then, at least, they will accept PostScript input. -Andre |

Hi Gary I think the iMac is about one year old. > Go to System Preferences, StartUp Disk and see if you have an OS9 > option. I don't need to print from other workstations. This iMac runs OSX. It prints fine from OSX. After the machine has booted, it starts a program called "DIALOGYS" a workshop manual and parts lists software for Renault dealers. This program runs only on OS 9. I heard you could boot to OS 9 by holding the "Alt" key, if have a OS 9 partition only? I tried that, got the choice menu, but couldn't boot to OS9 as I didn't get this option at all. Thomas |

I'll try that too when I find the Jaguars and Panthers on the iMac! I also have a CD-ROM, that came with the new printer of course. But like I said, it only installed itself to OSX. Thomas |
