DVD Player region troubles...

Hi~

I've got a PowerBook G4 and frequently travel between the US and the
UK. Whether traveling or at home, I use my PowerBook to play rented
DVDs. However, when I first used the DVD Player app in OSX, it told
me that I could only change Region Codes for viewing DVDs five times.
This is a bit of a problem, since the US is Region 1 and the UK Region
2. Is there any way I can get around this limitation? Or will I
ultimately only be able to rent DVDs in one of the two countries
(which seems rather absurd)?! Thanks for any insights...

Cheers,
~rr~

It depends on exactly which DVD drive your Powerbook has. (System
Profiler will tell you that.) Some of them have region free hacks
available, and some don't. Try a google search for "region free dvd
macintosh powerbook" and you will find several sites that have info
about how to do it. (And pretty much all of them start out with
warnings that doing so *will* void your warranty, and you risk
permanently hosing your DVD drive if anything goes wrong with the
process.)
