difference between Soundtrack and Garage Band

What is the difference between Soundtrack and Garage Band?
I have Soundtrack, can I do any more with Garage Band?

They are functionally very similar but more different in use than you
might expect. The loops provided with each product are not the same
but there's some crossover between them. It's probably possible to
merge them all into one giant loop library and share it. GarageBand is
much more focused on setting you up to record your own loops and then
fiddle with them through application of various effects whereas
Soundtrack is more focused on stacking existing loops to create the
sound you want. One thing I sorely miss in GarageBand is the ability
to shift the entire tune up a fifth or whatever. You can transpose
individual tracks in GarageBand but, from what I've seen so far, it's a
lot more difficult to screw around with the composition as a whole.

The biggest weakness to GarageBand is that you have to pony up an
additional $99 to get the Jam Pack to get an additional collection of
loops. The ones that ship with the base product are ok but they really
only serve as a demo. You'll want more right away.

I blather on pretty relentlessly in my blog about each product and
there are also links to tunes that have been generated with each one.
Check it out if you like - I update it pretty regularly.
