| newbie can't re-install printer - please help Hi all - I'm new to Mac (have just recently "switched" and hope I'm in the right place. I upgraded a G$ from 9.2 to 10.3 and installed a Sony DPP-EX5 (dye-sub photo printer) even though the best drivers they have were for 10.1. The printer installed and everything worked fine. Then a problem, had to remove the printer and now it won't reinstall no matter what I do. - The printer shows up in the "add printer" dialog but says "drivers not installed" - Then a dialog box pops up that says "new drivers detected" and asks whether I want to reload the browser - Regardless of whether I hit "ok" or "cancel" it just returns to the "driver not installed" dialog I've rebooted, removed everything and reinstalled...all the usual stuff. Apple said its Sony's problem. Sony refered me back to Apple. All I know is the printer worked fine yesterday and now it doesn't. The only other thing is I think there was a "software update" to OS 10.3.2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ajay |

| Re: newbie can't re-install printer - please help Do you still have the driver install disc? Try reinstalling. Then before you print anything go to file page set up and set it for your printer BEFORE you print. I had a problem with a Lexmark which was solved in this way. narcema wrote: > Hi all - I'm new to Mac (have just recently "switched" and hope I'm in the > right place. | Re: newbie can't re-install printer - please help Thanks for the advice, but I do have the cd and have installed several times - the prob is I can't get the printer to show up in the printers list (through the print setup utility or through page setup dialog boxes) because it doesn't accept the driver? I've got an old drive with the system archived when the printer worked. I'm wondering if I can copy over system files that would enable the printer... Go to the Library/Printers folder on the old drive (not the Library in tour user, but the Library off the root folder) and locate the Sony folder. Copy that folder to the new drive and give it a shot. Good luck! |

It's great and even got me out of a jam where my Print Center kept crashing so I couldn't select ANY printers. Here's the Print Center Repair link: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21738 Kind Regards, Nathaniel -- flikWORLD Design reply to: nat at flikworld(dot)com |
