| How to: Play Quicktime Instruments with midi keybd? Can one play (trigger) quicktime instruments with a usb/midi keyboard using OSX 10.3? What is the simplest way to do this? I just want the kids to be able to pound away on the spiffy new usb musical keyboard attached to their iMac, how can we do this? The keyboard is only a controller and has no tone generator.... |

You need a soft synth to act as an interface between the keyboard and the sounds http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13222 should do you fine. Dylan |

There are several different programs that can do this. One (which Apple is promoting right now) is Garage Band - part of the iLife '04 suite. The suite costs $50 (retail - educational and government prices are lower) and also includes the latest versions of iTunes, iMovie, iDVD and iPhoto. Any good music store should also sell Mac software for this sort of thing, although you may find many such titles to be rather pricey, since those stores usually sell pro software in addition to consumer stuff. Some web searches may also reveal useful shareware or freeware titles. If your keyboard is USB and is advertised as having Mac support, it will probably include some basic software package. -- David |

So is iPhoto 4. However, GB has some real hardware requirements. It goes on my iBook G3@800, but barely. I will be testing it on my G-4 dual 500, but it may be the straw that...... "forces" me to buy the G-5 after which I have been lusting, but can't quite rationalize "having" to buy it..... John McWilliams |

The demos in the g4-5 folder won't play due to processor not fast enough and disk not fast enough messages. But... man this program is FUN FUN FUN! -- Apple computers are for people who produce. |
