Multiple Cameras using Firewire

Greetings

Can you connect multiple firewire DV camcorders / cameras into a single
firewire port, or do you need one port per camera?

Or what can I use to connect multiple cameras, and how would it effect the
quality of picture from the cameras?

Thanks in advance

1. Firewire 400's theortical maximum is about 40 MB/sec, so IN THEORY
you could have up to EIGHT consumer-dv camcorders (which send video out
at about 5MB/sec) attached to one FW port. However:

2. I am not aware of any dv camcorders that have two FW ports on them,
so from a practical standpoint you'd need at least a FW hub,

3. There's no way to control which device is sending data to the
computer at a given moment (only one device can send data to the
computer at a time)

4. I'm not aware of any consumer HD that can WRITE 40MB/second to the
hard drive, so the point is moot anyway.

Trying to figure out why you would want to. Please enlighten.
