Zip chunker for Mac OS9?

I have to split up an 800MB file on my work Mac OS9 so that I can burn it
onto CD, bring it home, and reassemble it on my PC.

Is there a Mac software that can create self-conjoining files for eventual
use on a PC?

Stuffit can create multiple segments.

To reassemble all one usually need to do is place all parts in the
same folder and click on the first segment.

Thats what I do.

Which version does this? I have Mac v7 Basic and it doesn't seem to do
this... :(

Interesting. Never notived this.

Stuffit 1.5 which is an oldie will allow this. It may be that the
more recent versions don't offer this because its not as necessary as
it was when we were in the days of using multiple floppies.

Agreed. Even before Stuffit there was "Disk Doubler" that would allow you to
break up large files, or groups of files, into parts which you could load
onto 1.4MB floppies (gasp!) and then put back together later.

I have a question. What kind of file do you have that's 800MB?! I would have
to guess that it's either A. an image, or B. a document with images. If the
answer's A. then you need to seriously look at reducing the image's file
size. No image, unless it's for a billboard the size of a football stadium,
needs to be that big. If the answer's B. then you can simply save the
document to one cd and the images to another and problem solved.

Let me know which answer is correct. :)

Kind Regards,
Nathaniel

The .ZIP file contains PC files with long file names that Mac doesn't know
how handle. If I unzip it on my work Mac, I will lose part of the name
including the extensions. The files are .RAR and .PAR files that, when put
together, form DIVX files.

So, I can't unzip the RARs at work, only at home. But I can't get 800MB on a
CD. So I need to chunk it onto two CDs.

So the zip file is 800MB compressed? If that's the case, you could have the
person who gave you the files give you two zip files of 400MB each (or some
breakdown like this that will allow you to burn two cds without having to
unzip the files.)

Otherwise, I don't think the mac alters filenames of pc files in any way
shape or form since it's actually more flexible with file names than pc's
are. You might try unzipping the file on your work mac an just isolating
enough files to let you burn the information to two cds without having to
break up your zip file into two pieces, which I am not sure at this point
that you can do.

Kind Regards,
Nathaniel

Wouldn't it have been simpler just to say "porn"? :)
