| Need more memory for G3(PowerPC 750) 400Mhz Powerbook for MAC OS X 10.3 Hello I need some more memory for a G3(PowerPC 750) 400Mhz Powerbook. At the moment it has 2 sticks summing to 192meg, the system preferences say SODIMM0/J2 64MB SDRAM PC100-322S SODIMM1/J1 128MB SDRAM PC100-322S I can't work out from google if there are 3 slots or 2 slots in these machines, how many are there? I am running Mac OS 10.3, will increasing the memory increase the performance of the machine noticeably? Cheers Tony |

According to the specifications on Apple's web site, there are 2. http://www.info.apple.com/support/applespec.html You didn't specify which machine you have, so I can't give the link for your machine. > I am running Mac OS 10.3, will increasing the memory increase the > performance of the machine noticeably? Yes. Regards, Rob. |

It has two slots, taking a max of 384 MB of ram.... they sell a 256 MB piece for US$109.99, a 128 MB for US$45.99, and a 64 MB for US $31.99... What they refer to as the G3 400 MHz Firewire/Pismo model also has two slots, but can use up to 512 MB pieces, for a max of 1024 MB... the 512 MB pieces sell (at crucial.com) for US$136.99. So check whether your Powerbook has firewire onboard or not... if not, perhaps replace the 64 MB with a 256 MB piece for a total of 384 MB. If it does have firewire, I would replace the 64 MB with a 512 MB, for a total of 640 MB. Either way, you should see good improvement in performance. Crucial.com is not the cheapest source of RAM online, but they sell quality RAM, delivery quickly, and offer good support. They're worth considering as your source. |
