basic finder question

When i use the finders find dialog box (cmd-f) EVERY time I have to
click the listing for the drive that i want to search. I have servral
drives and partitions , but the one I want to search is the boot drive.
No drive is checked no matter what I do. Is there a way to set a
default ?

I just went to finder in OS X (I have 10.2.8) and you can select "Specific
Places" in the pull down menu at the top of the "Find" menu and then you can
use that location whenever you want to find something. You will have to
select it when you Find, but it might make it easier.

thanks very much. I am not sure it I understand. When I select a volume
in the specific places checklist, the selection is erased next time i
use the search system. It seems to me something is wrong with my
install, when you set a search place in specific places, does it go
away ?

Re: basic finder question

You can create "places" in the finder window (in OS 10.2.8 at least) by
hitting the "Add" button. Then, the next time you do a find, you choose
your "added" location in the pull down menu of the find window.
