Mac Classic II Question

Yeah I know that this is not the right place to post so let me know
which newsgroup is. In any event I found a Mac Classic II in the
dumpster and what the heck I plugged it in and the hard drive sounded
fine but the screen only showed 4 broad white vertical lines. I am
assuming that this is going right back in the garbage but I thought
that I would ask if there is some miracle secret adjustment I can make
that might bring this ghost back to life. Thanks.

Lucky you to have such a find!

I would call Shreve Systems and find out if they have replacement screen
tubes for Mac Classics. They specialize in older/refurbished mac parts.

http://www.shrevesystems.com

You have come to the right place, methinks!

Kind Regards,

Sounds more like an analog board to me.

Re: Mac Classic II Question

years and years ago I once belonged to an Apple user group and if I
remember correctly in order to open up these boxes there was actually
a special tool or a case cracker I think. If I wanted to open up this
beast and take a look see do I really need a special tool and if not
any links to a site that might give me instructions on getting inside
this thing. thanks

To fix an SE model (similar to Classic):
http://www.jagshouse.com/classicrepair.html

Great site for Mac Classic II data:
http://www.welovemacs.com/select-you...intosh-classic
-ii.html

Hope that helps!

Takes a long T-15 Torx screwdriver; the case cracker is just to keep the
plastic from being marred. You can substitute certain kinds of "alligator"
clips for the real case cracker.

WORD OF WARNING!!!!!!!

These things carry EXTERMELY HIGH VOLTAGE in the CRT!!! DO NOT go mucking
about unless you are absolutely sure you know what you're doing, and HAVE
THE PROPER DISCHARGE TOOLS.

If the stripes are in a 'digital' pattern then it is probably a bad SIMM,
not the display. SIMMS for these computers are getting hard to find, but
they're dirt cheap. You should be able to get replacement SIMMs (why not
maximize the memory while you're at it?) for free or only a few $.

Good luck.
