Problem deleting users under 10.2.8

I'm encountering what I think is a bug in the "Delete User" function
within System Preferences | Accounts. Immediately before deleting,
here's the results of df:

[foo:~] bar% df
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/disk1s11 10476160 8756480 1614920 85% /
devfs 1 1 0 100% /dev
fdesc 1 1 0 100% /dev
<volfs> 512 512 0 100% /.vol
/dev/disk1s12 5242440 4196404 1046036 81% /Volumes/OS9
/dev/disk1s13 4208452 1662732 2545720 40% /Volumes/Temp
/dev/disk0s9 5732584 1600612 4131972 28% /Volumes/sw
/dev/disk0s10 14783976 11076120 3707856 75%
/Volumes/Mirror
/dev/disk0s11 57626800 35455720 22171080 62%
/Volumes/Warehouse
/dev/disk2 123212 123184 28 100%
/Volumes/DailyBackup

During the delete process, I get this:

[foo:~] bar% df
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/disk1s11 10476160 8792320 1579080 85% /
devfs 1 1 0 100% /dev
fdesc 1 1 0 100% /dev
<volfs> 512 512 0 100% /.vol
/dev/disk1s12 5242440 4196404 1046036 81% /Volumes/OS9
/dev/disk1s13 4208452 1662732 2545720 40% /Volumes/Temp
/dev/disk0s9 5732584 1600612 4131972 28% /Volumes/sw
/dev/disk0s10 14783976 11076120 3707856 75%
/Volumes/Mirror
/dev/disk0s11 57626800 35455720 22171080 62%
/Volumes/Warehouse
/dev/disk2 123212 123184 28 100%
/Volumes/DailyBackup
/dev/disk3s2 35800 2912 32888 9%
/tmp/.deletedUserMountpoint

It looks like Jaguar is creating a temporary volume onto which the
user account data is moved (in a dmg) before it's ultimately moved to
the "DeletedUsers" account. Unfortunately, this user has more than
35MB of data in the home folder, so the backup fails, and Jaguar
refuses to remove the user account.

I know that I can get around this by reducing the size of the user's
home folder manually, but I wanted to know if anyone else has noticed
this, and if this is "normal" behavior.
