Imac g4/700 flat screen problems

Hi

I bought this machine one month ago

When I start the iMac, Osx2 often freeze at starting time. I reinstalled
osx 2 and it didn't cure the problem.

Often, the application (word etc ) quit and the screen becomes darker.
there's also a window asking me to restart the machine.

Sometimes I know when i will have some problems with the iMac. The first
things I see are weird little lines on the screen . Sometimes these lines
goes worse and the imac is crashing soon after that.

I tried an old HD i had and it didn't cure the problem.

How can I be sure to make a good diagnostic of this problem ?

Ram problem ? main board problem ? Virus?

Please help

Try your "Hardware Test" cd first (boot up with it in the drive as a start
up disk) and see you have a video card problem within the machine. Hopefully
not, but it might be a hardware issue.

I bought one of the first iMac G4/700's and it had a problem with the
motherboard (had to get a new one, under warranty) and then the RAM chip
started getting errors.

These computers seem pretty notorious for this RAM problem. My iMac G4/700
15" would start up in OS 9 and say "A RAM problem has been detected" every
time I started up.
