Help! On OS X, one of my files has weird ownership and even rootcan't change it! "Operation not permitted"

I have a whole bunch of files on my internal hard drive, on a powerbook
running OS X Panther. Many of the files were placed there by a backup
utility doing a copy from a desktop G4 running OS 9. All of them behave
normally, except two, which have a weird ownership. Instead of being owned
by me (mlevin), they are owned by "314112688" and I cannot move them. Here
is the output of "ls -l":

total 104
drwxr-xr-x 6 root unknown 204 14 Dec 15:49 .
drwxr-xr-x 9 root unknown 306 16 Nov 06:04 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 mlevin unknown 12292 14 Dec 15:47 .DS_Store
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root unknown 0 5 Aug 2002 Icon?
drwxr-xr-x 4 root unknown 136 14 Dec 15:48 Miscellaneous
drwx------ 22 314112960 314112688 748 18 Mar 2003 old files from
HUSC:FAS

So, I did "su", and figured that as superuser, I could change ownership to
"mlevin". Didn't work! It said:

chown: old files from HUSC:FAS/: Operation not permitted

What the heck is going on? How can it not allow the superuser to change
ownership?? And, why would one file out of hundreds possibly have this
problem? I've run the OS X Disk utility to "repair permissions" and it
didn't flag this or change anything. If anyone has any suggestions, please
cc: the post to mlevin77@comcast.net. Thanks!!
