Mac networking help

I am designing a network for an assignment. I have decided upon using
Macs for the clients. I am using a Sun Microsystems server which has
something called Solaris PC NetLink preinstalled. Will I need some sort
of client software installed on the macs and if so what do I need?

Thanks

JesseJames

PS: Im not sure if this is the correct newsgroup to ask in so if you can
send me somewhere which will know the answer I will greatly appreciate it.

What do you want your network to do ? Sharing files requires that the
Sun and Mac boxes have the same file sharing protocol (NFS,AFP or
SMB....). The PC NetLink sounds like an SMB type file sharing and you
can (maybe) treat the Sun as a PC file sharing server/client. In that
case that's already running in Mac OS X. (There are all kinds of
notes on line about file sharing between OS X and Windows)

If you just want them to talk to each other over TCP/IP they they do
that already.

If you want to add something special in the mix look into Rendezvous
(ZeroConfig) that allows setting up networks like this with no user
intervention. There has recently been a flurry of notes on the Apple
Rendezvous group about running Rendezvous on Solarias.
