| Safari on the blink? I was hoping that Safari would make my life easier and allow me to finally get rid of Internet Explorer. Oh, well... Just today, Safari started hanging while opening LOTS of web sites it used to open with no difficulty. While I can still open many other web sites, lots of them now end up showing a message like this in the status bar: Loading "http://apple.netscape.com/apple.adp", completed 0 of 1 item ....and then a blank page and an interminable hang. (Note that this is the default home page, as set up by Apple. You think _that_ would open!) Repeated attempts at loading various pages eventually ends up with an "unexpectedly quit" crash. Last night I installed the software for an HP PSC 2510. This is an all-in-one copier, scanner, fax, printer. Could that have somehow goofed up Safari??? I can't think of any other things I've done recently that might have caused a problem - no other software installations, no crashes, etc. Steps I've taken: I first tried the "Reset Safari..." item in the Safari menu. That didn't help, so then I deleted the "com.apple.Safari.plist" file from my "~/Library/Preferences" folder. When that didn't work, I tried re-running the Safari installer (from a fresh download from Apple's web site.) When that didn't work, I deleted everything that the Finder's "Find" command turned up with Safari in the name (except for some Microsoft Office files that seemed unrelated) - caches, bookmarks, folders, pkgs, the app itself - and re-installed. It _still_ hangs! I'm running OS X 10.2.8 on an iBook 2000 dual-USB and Safari 1.0 (v85). Any help would be much appreciated! Jim I LOVE YOU, MAN!!! (In other words - that did the trick! Thanks!) Chip ....and yes, I do recall seeing that font being installed by the HP installer last night. So I'm sending a note to HP. For anyone else interested, the Knowledge Base article number is 107641 and can be accessed at: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107641 Thanks again! -- (note: email address munged -- there are no punctuation marks in the part preceding the "at" symbol) |

That would have been my first move . . . Glenn |

Jim | | | | I LOVE YOU, MAN!!! | | (In other words - that did the trick! Thanks!) I'm happy it worked for you... I spent 4-5 months with no response to my posts trying to resolve problem before I found the Knowledge Base item. Fortunately for me, the problem only appeared on one site that I tried to go to regularly. Thanks for posting Knowledge Base info as I was pressed for time when I posted. and... now I know where I got the font from. Thanks... Jim |

| Re: Safari on the blink? When I tried Safari, i liked it better than Explorer and Netscape. When I tried Camino I didn't thought that something was faster than Safari. Camino is really faster than Safari. As is, Camino can be even faster with a simple modification I can give here to peoples interested to try it.
