Stuck Mouse

Every once in a while when I wake my computer up the mouse cursor is frozen.
I've found that I can regain it if I unplug the mouse from the USB port and
plug it back in. I can simplify that procedure with an extension, but I'm
wondering if there's another solution?

The computer is a G5 running OS 10.2.8; the mouse is a Logitech MX 700.
