| OS 8.5 onto a 7300/180 I have a PowerMac 7300/180 with no operating system installed. I found an OS 8.5 install CD, and tried to install OS 8.5, but every time I do it says OS 8.5 cannot be installed onto the system. I cannot figure this out, because 8.5 was previously installed on the system and it ran fine. I also have the OS 8.5 restore CD (they say iMac on them), so I could use that to restore the computer. However, it restored it as an iMac so everywhere it says "for your iMac." Also, I cannot connect to the internet through my LAN since I now only have AOL Link, AOL Link Enhanced, and AppleTalk. Can someone please help me? |

You need the factory 8.5 install sold at retail, not a model specific restore for a different model. Brian |

| Re: OS 8.5 onto a 7300/180 I also have the regular install CD. Shouldn't that work? Why would the restore CD allow my computer to even operate? I know someone that got an iMac with OS 9 and used the iMac install CD to install OS 9 onto all 4 of her other PowerMacs. Why wouldn't mine work? I do know that some restore/install CDs that come with a system (like the 9.2.2 CD I got with a PowerBook) will install on other systems. Other restore/install CDs won't. Brian |
